RTCA DO-178B is still the foremost standard for the development and maintenance of safety-related systems in aircraft. This internationally recognised standard covers techniques and methods used for the management and development of software for airborne digital computer based equipment and systems.
Also known in Europe as EUROCAE ED-12B, it provides guidance to both industry and regulators for use in the certification process, covering software safety strategies and planning, requirements analysis and verification strategy and certification
Although RTCA/DO-178B is specifically for aircraft systems, the principles covered can be applied to safety related and critical systems in all industry sectors. DO-178C is not expected to be available until at least 2009.
Cobham Technical Services - ERA Technology has experience in the certification of software developed for safety critical avionic systems and, is ideally placed to partner the CAA in developing and presenting this intensive one and a half day course.
